Tell us a bit about your business and why you decided to set up shop in Trenton.

The Geek Shack is your one-stop shop for all things collectible! We are proud to offer the largest selection of Harry Potter merchandise in Ontario. We also specialize in vintage toys and collectibles from a variety of fandoms.

I decided to set up shop in Trenton because I was born and raised here. I noticed that there were no businesses catering to these specific fandoms, and I knew there was a need for it in the community to bring people together in their shared interests.

How has the community been supportive of your entrepreneurial journey?

The downtown businesses have been absolutely fantastic. They are always the first to lend a helping hand or offer a word of advice. They are also the first to refer your business to their customers.

The customers have also been fantastic. Knowing that we are bringing people together and allowing them to experience joy and excitement in their specific fandoms is a wonderful feeling.

In your own words, describe what it’s like to be a part of the Downtown Community.

I love being a part of this community. Everyone looks out for each other. Despite the growth we’ve seen over the last few years, it still feels like a small town. We take care of each other and are very supportive of one another’s success.

What can we look forward to from your business in the coming months?

I’m excited to bring more Harry Potter-specific candies to the store, as Harry Potter has always been in high demand. People of all ages love the fandom and are always stopping by to see what new items I’ve added to the store.

We also look forward to participating in upcoming Ladies’ Night, and our annual May the 4th event, where we give back to the community.

What do you enjoy doing in Quinte West and the surrounding area on your days off?

As many entrepreneurs know, we don’t usually tend to get a lot of days off. When I’m not in the store, I’m usually spending my time picking out items for our customers. I’m incredibly dedicated to bringing our customers and community more products in their fandoms.

That being said, I’m always a champion for the local businesses here and do my best to visit the stores as much as I refer my customers!

But I’m always trying to point my customers to our downtown businesses when they are looking for something specific.

I strongly encourage everyone to visit downtown and see the local businesses for themselves. Many of us support local charities, sports teams, and more, so when you purchase from our businesses, you are giving back to your community. We love meeting you in our stores and having the chance to chat with you, welcoming you into our community and business culture!
